II. ब्रह्मयज्ञं

१. आचमनं

After doing achamanam,sit down and keep two blades of darba grass under your feet, wear a 2 blades of grass pavitram on your ring finger and also hold 2 grasses of darba around your ring finger.

२.
शुक्लांबरधरं विष्णुं शशिवर्णं चतुर्भुजं।
प्रसन्नवदनं ध्यायेत् सर्व विघ्नोऽपशान्तये ॥

३. प्राणायामम् (4 times)

Place the right thumb and the right ring finger on your right and left nostril respectively. Pressing the right nostril using your thumb breathe in using your left nostril while saying the following.

ॐ भूः । ॐ भुवः। ॐ सुवः। ॐ महः। ॐ तपः। ॐ सत्यं । ॐ तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं । भर्गोदेवस्य धीमहि । धियोयोनः प्रचोदयात् ॥

Release air through right nostril after holding left nostril with ring finger while saying

ओमापः ज्योतीरसः अमृतं ब्रह्म भूर्भुवस्वरोम् ॥

४. संकल्पं

Keep your left hand sideways on your right thigh with the inner palm facing upwards and cover it perpendicularly with your right palm aligned with your thigh in such a way that it's inner palm faces downwards.

ममोपात्त समस्त दुरितक्षय द्वारा श्री परमेश्वर प्रीत्यर्थं ब्रह्मयज्ञेन यक्ष्ये ।

Chant and clean the hands with water

विद्युदसि विद्यमे पाप्मानं ऋतात् सत्यमुपैमि ॥

After saying the above mantra do achamanam three times and wipe inner palms with water twice. After touching holy water, touch your eyes nose and chest region near the heart and keep your hands in the same way as for performing "mamopartha" and then chant

ॐ । तत्सवितुर्वरेणियों । भार्गो देवस्य धीमहीऽ२ । धियोयो नः प्रचोऽ१ २ १ २ । हिम् आऽ२॥ दायो । आऽ ३ ४ ५ ॥

ॐ । अग्निमीले पुरोहितं । यज्ञस्य देवं ऋत्विजं । होतारं रत्नघातमं ॥
ॐ ॥ ईषेत्वा ऊर्जेत्वा वायवस्थ उपायवस्थ देवो वः सविता ॥ प्रार्पयतु श्रेष्ठतमाय कर्मणे ॥
ॐ । अग्न आयाहि विइत्ये गृणानः हव्यदातये । निहोतासत्सि बर्हिषि ॥
ॐ । शन्नो देवीः अभिष्टये । आपो भवन्तु पीतये । शंयोः अभिस्रवन्तु नः ॥ ॐ ॥
ॐ नमो ब्रह्मणे नमो अस्त्वग्नये, नमः पृथिव्यै, नाम ओशधीभ्यः नमो वाचे, नमो वाचस्पतये, नमो विष्णवे बृहते करोमि ॥ ( 3 times )

Saying the below mantra wipe the inner palms of both hands with holy water.

वृष्टिरसि वृश्चमे पाप्मानं ऋतात् सत्यमुपागां ॥

६. ब्रह्मयज्ञतर्पणं

देवर्षिपित्रुतर्पणम् करिष्ये ।

देवतर्पणम् Devatarpanam- Wear the sacred thread / poonal to the right normally and perform tarpanam such that water flows through your fingers.

ब्रह्मादयो ये देवः तान् देवान् तर्पयामि ।
सर्वान देवान् तर्पयामि ।
सर्वदेव गणान् तर्पयामि ।
सर्वदेव पत्नीः तर्पयामि ।
सर्वदेवगणपत्नीः तर्पयामि ।
सर्वदेवपुत्रान् तर्पयामि ।
सर्वदेवगणपुत्रान् तर्पयामि॥

ऋषितर्पणम् Rishitarpanam : Wear the sacred thread / poonal as a garland and perform tarpanam such that water flows through your little finger. Repeat each mantra twice.

कृष्ण-द्वैपायनदयः ये ऋषयः तान् ऋषीन् तर्पयामि ।
सर्वान् ऋषीन् तर्पयामि ।
सर्व ऋषि गणान् तर्पयामि ।
सर्व ऋषि पत्नीः तर्पयामि ।
सर्व ऋषि गणपत्नीः तर्पयामि ।
सर्व ऋषि पुत्रान् तर्पयामि ।
सर्व ऋषि गणपुत्रान् तर्पयामि ।

Wear the poonal to the right normally and allow the water to flow through the tips of the fingers.

ऋग्वेदं तर्पयामि । यजुर्वेदं तर्पयामि । सामवेदं तर्पयामि । अथर्ववेदं तर्पयामि। इतिहास पुराणं तर्पयामि । कल्पं तर्पयामि

पित्रुतर्पणम् Pitrutarpanam: wear the Poonal to your left and let the water flow through the gap of your thumb and index finger. Each mantra must be repeated thrice and pour holy water thrice. The Pitru devathas that come in pitru tarpanam are different from our fore-fathers. Therefore everyone must perform this. But usually people whose father is alive do not perform it. Therefore it is left to individual choice.

सोमः पितृमान् यमोऽङ्गिरस्वान् अग्निः कव्यवाहनः इत्यादयः ये पितरः
तान् पितॄन् तर्पयामि ।
सर्वान पितॄन् तर्पयामि ।
सर्व-पितृ-गणान तर्पयामि ।
सर्व-पितृ-पत्नीः तर्पयामि ।
सर्व-पितृ-गणपत्नीः तर्पयामि ।
सर्व-पितृ-पुत्रान् तर्पयामि ।
सर्व-पितृ-गणपुत्रान् तर्पयामि ।

ऊर्जं वहन्तीः अमृतं धृतं पयः कीलालं परिस्रुतं स्वधास्त तर्पयत मे पितॄन् । तृप्यत तृप्यत तृप्यत ॥

Wear the Poonal normally to the right and do aachamanam.


Brahma yagnam(sacrifice to Brahma) is the oblation offered to satisfy Devas, Rishis(sages) and Pithrus(ancestors). It is supposed to be performed daily after Madhyannikam, But nowadays it is done mainly on avani avittam days.
